There is shocking legislation proposed in the African country of Uganda; homosexual death penalty could be the punishment for some gays who knowingly have sex if they are HIV positive. Another aspect of the legislation stipulates that friends and family members who knowingly support their lifestyle could get as much as seven years in prison.

Gay rights groups say the bill promotes hatred and bigotry and feel that the legislation is an African wide backlash towards the more open gay community in Africa. Africa has the largest number of people infected with HIV/AIDS in the world.

Still, the idea of a homosexual death penalty is appalling; I don’t believe in nor condone the gay lifestyle but the belief that one should be killed for living that lifestyle is simply barbaric for lack of a better term. Gay rights activists say the bill is likely to pass in Uganda.

Not only can family members be punished under the Uganda homosexual death penalty legislation but landlords who rent to gays could face as much as seven years in prison as well. The bill also says that anyone with “religious, social, economic, or political authority who fail to turn homosexuals in could face three years in prison. And liberals thought the right wing in America was tough on gay rights.
