Due to the harsh economic times the White House is cutting back its Hanukkah party guest list. Since the country is going through such hard economic times, Obama has decided to try and cut costs by making the White House party and presumably the rest of the Holiday gatherings there reasonable.
If you believe cost cutting is the reason that an 800 person guest list is now going to be about 400 than there really isn’t much else to be done for you; you’re firmly in the tank for Obama. Since when did the government ever decide to use frugality as an excuse for anything? How about when it’s a convenient excuse.
Why didn’t the government cut back on the cost of the inauguration? It was a needless expense, right? How about cutting back on a couple of trillion dollar healthcare bills in the House and Senate? Why not cut out some Czar salaries?
Politico reports that the upcoming state dinner with India will cost more than George W. Bush’s did. Obama and the White House have a choice in the matter; to believe that they are constrained by the poor economy (which by the way they say is now growing) is disingenuous at best.
Personally I don’t care about the White House Hanukkah party, I’m not Jewish. But if I were, I would most likely be offended that the White House has decided to cut in half a major gathering of Jewish leaders with the economy as a convenient excuse. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how other holiday parties, dinners, and assorted gatherings compare at the White House this year.
