Authorities in Peru have arrested four people on suspicion of murdering as many as a dozen people for the purpose of selling their fat. The gang of fat killers killed people and sold their fat for use in cosmetics in Europe. The BBC reports that the gang sold the fat for about $15000 dollars a liter.

This story of fat for cosmetics is eerily similar to the 2006 movie “Perfume” in which a man with an uncanny sense of smell kills and uses his victim’s bodies and parts to make his concoctions. Want a quote that will make your skin crawl? Here it is from the BBC story:

Gen Felix Burga, head of Peru’s police criminal division, said there were indications that “an international network trafficking human fat” was operating from Peru.

Are you kidding me? The authorities say that this gang of fat killers may be behind the disappearance of up to 60 people. Two suspects from Italy are still at large. Members who are in custody have confessed in detail about the killings and the removal of victims fat for sale on the black market.

Authorities in Peru were told that the gang’s leader had been carrying out these kinds of murders for decades. That’s a lot of Peruvian fat that might have been in cosmetics sold all around the world.
