What’s better than being on the Forbes richest list? How about being one of the most powerful people in the world as determined by Forbes? Joaquin Guzman, Forbes most powerful people in the world distinction, lands the Mexican drug lord on both of those prestigious lists.

Back in March I told you how Joaquin Guzman, also known as shorty, made the Forbes richest list by having a net worth around 1 billion dollars. Now, Joaquin Guzman makes it onto the Forbes most powerful people in the world list.

And why not, being the head of the infamous Sinaloa drug cartel would make any of us worthy of that distinction. I mean being almost single handedly responsible for a drug war which has ravaged Mexico and led to countless lives being lost would fill anyone’s power cup to the brim.

So how does Mexico’s Felipe Calderon feel about Joaquin Guzman being on the Forbes list? Not too good. From the LA Times:

President Felipe Calderon lashed out in March when Forbes named Guzman one of the world’s top billionaires. The question of “powerful” is more nuanced and subjective, however. Forbes says it wanted to start a “conversation” with its first such list and asked whether naming “despicable criminals” like Guzman was an accurate reflection of power.

Despite being on the run since 2001 when he escaped from a maximum security prison, and being one of “America’s Most Wanted”, Joaquin Guzman Forbes appearances are becoming a bit of a routine for the gangster. What a world.
