Democratic Congressman Jim Moran says that it’s un-American to oppose terror trials. Moran said that it’s un-American to hold anyone indefinitely without trial. That would be true, if the anyone’s he’s speaking about were citizens of the United States who were guaranteed a fair and speedy trial under the Constitution. Those in question are not, so it’s not un-American to oppose the terror trials.

The Congressman’s claim of un-American opposition is also wrong in this regard; those who oppose the terror trials are not opposing the trials themselves, they’re opposing the terror trials being held here in the United States.

Congressman Jim Moran’s assertion is disingenuous and frankly stupid. He said to TPM that the Guantanamo detainees were gaining sympathy while being held without trial in Cuba. I say to the Congressman, that the terror trials to be held in New York are for the sole purpose of garnering sympathy. What possible reason could there be for bringing 5 terrorists to a country that they don’t belong to, affording them rights that they don’t deserve, especially when they’ve already confessed? I’ll let you fill in the blanks there.

The good Congressman is all in favor of closing Gitmo and bringing the detainees to the United States. I’m sure he is, his district is close to Washington D.C., I wouldn’t expect many if any of the detainees to find themselves anywhere near his constituents.

So Congressman Jim Moran, I’ll continue my un-American opposition to the terror trials in New York, you just continue being a (everybody now!) jackass.
