Robert Gibbs the White House Press Secretary says that GOP wins in Virginia and New Jersey have nothing to do whatsoever with President Obama while a win by a democrat in NY-23 has everything to do with the splintering of the Republican Party. Wouldn’t you hate to be this predictable?
Gibbs, possibly the smuggest Press Secretary in history, tried his best to spin GOP victories in Virginia and New Jersey as just “local elections” with no ramifications for President Obama. Yeah, that’s a good one Bob, you keep telling yourself that. From Jake Tapper’s blog:
In the New York race, Gibbs said, “we watched a party pick a candidate and then purge that candidate. And I think the result was an election (in which) that district sent its first non-Republican to Congress since before the Civil War.”
Referring to tea party activists and other conservatives supporting Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, Gibbs said the result of the race “proves that anger can get you 45% of the vote.”
If Robert Gibbs and the Obama Administration are going to perpetuate the lie that Hoffman lost simply because there’s little more than anger in the tea party movement, they do so at their own peril. Bill Owens was a benefactor of the Republican establishment backing the wrong candidate from the beginning, period. Had Hoffman been running as the Republican with backing from the RNC early, he would have won hands down.
The real funny thing about the spin of Robert Gibbs and the rest of the MSM is that every time a democrat won an election even for dog catcher, it was a referendum on George W. Bush. Now, John Corzine goes down to defeat in the bluest of blue states, where Obama campaigned personally, and he tries to tell us Obama isn’t a factor. Come on Gibbs, how stupid do you think the American people are?
Great video of Jake Tapper making Robert Gibbs look like a lightweight below.

There is one thing wrong that the claim that Hoffman would have won had he was the Republican candidate. He lives in Lake Placid and therefore does not live in NY-23. The voters rightfully thought of him as a carpetbagger.

I don’t know gg, the carpetbagger still did pretty well.
