George Orwell would be proud; scientists at the University of California at Berkley have developed a psychic mind reading computer. The computer can read what you’re thinking and then “draw” a picture for others to see. Sound far fetched? Scientists were able to see recreated images based on a dvd that subjects were watching.
The psychic mind reading computer studies brainwave activity and then transfers the brainwave activity into images on a screen. Scientists say it’s in the very early stages but stress that it could be used for the greater good one day. Isn’t that what they always say about questionable scientific experiments?
The scientists at Berkley say that the technology could be used to solve crimes or recount what an eyewitness saw during a crime; using the excuse that humans are unreliable on their own to describe events and places.
Is it possible that something like a psychic mind reading computer could be used for the detriment of society if used improperly? Most definitely; any type of advances in science, whether technological or biological run the risk of being abused or misused.
And of course there’s the moral aspects of such a device. Would the freedoms and rights of individuals and communities be at risk if such a contraption ever made its way into everyday life? This is another question to be answered.
For now the psychic mind reading computer is in its infancy and poses no threats. But the more science dabbles into ways to harness our thoughts and emotions, the more dangerous it becomes.
