I’m sure we can all breathe a sigh of relief; Sean Penn is going to Cuba. Vanity Fair has asked Penn to write an article about the state of Cuba since the inauguration of Barack Obama. I suppose liberals think that the occupier of our White House has everything to do with the plight of Cubans and nothing to do with a fascist dictator who’s been in power for 60 years.
Sean Penn on behalf of Vanity Fair, bastion for truth telling journalism, is no doubt expecting to see miraculous changes in the Communist country that to date haven’t been possible with that clown George Bush in the White House. Now that hope and change have come to America, it certainly has spread to the island paradise of Cuba.
Of course since taking office, Obama has talked a big game about lifting the embargo and normalizing relations with Cuba, but to date not much has happened; other than family members being able to visit without as many constraints. But still, lefty hero Fidel Castro is a big Obama fan.
A report yesterday said that Obama sent a message via Spain’s Prime Minister, a cordial message to Raul Castro asking him to take steps in the right direction on human rights. What? Human rights violations, in Cuba?
Maybe the real message is going south with the wonderful, witty and charming Sean Penn. He has a penchant for flying all over the world and meeting with America’s enemies. But this would be his first meeting with an American ally. Cuba’s status did change on January 20th didn’t it?
