Convicted murderer Khristian Oliver is set to be executed on November 5th; Oliver shot and beat an elderly Texas man to death and was found guilty of the crime in 1999. So why is Amnesty International asking that Khristian Oliver’s sentence be commuted to life? The jurors consulted the Bible before handing down his sentence.

Never mind the facts of the case, the facts being that 32 year old Khristian Oliver murdered a man in cold blood before robbing his house. And never mind the fact that it is undisputed that he is guilty. And never mind the fact that in Texas, you can be put to death for capital murder.

The real crime here according to bleeding hearts everywhere is that jurors in the case consulted the Holy Bible for guidance in determining the punishment of Khristian Oliver. It has happened before after all. From the Telegraph:

The US constitution calls for the separation of state and religion. In 2005, the state supreme court in Colorado overturned a death penalty on a convicted murderer because jurors had consulted the Bible while deliberating over his sentence.

Commuting Robert Harlan’s sentence to life imprisonment without parole, the court ruled that the Bible constituted an “improper outside influence” and a reliance on what it called a “higher authority”.

How crazy. Why in the world would you want to rely on a “higher power” when deliberating about ending a man’s life here on Earth? What possible good could come from it? I mean don’t we all just sit around hoping we’ll get the chance to sentence some low life to meet his maker for perpetrating a horrendous crime? No? Maybe I’m alone on this one.

I don’t know about you, but if I’m ever in a jury room deliberating a man’s life or death fate, I want as many Bibles in the room as possible.
