After a rash of deadly shootings this summer, Paterson, NJ adult curfews may be the order of the day. Looking to curb the violence as well as respond to frightened citizens, city officials may be looking to enact an unusual ordinance which would put a curfew in effect for Paterson adults as well as youths.
In Paterson, a couple of “groups” which those of us with common sense would call gangs, have been gunning each other down. A man was killed last week and became the latest victim in the feud. From the Associated Press:
The curfew would last for two months and bar people from loitering outside from midnight to 7 a.m. Violators would face up to a $2,000 fine and 90 days in jail. It would not apply to people in transit.
The Paterson NJ adult curfew measure will be voted on September 1st; with a second vote to follow if passed then comes a public hearing on the matter. The ACLU has already stopped youth directed curfews in New Jersey, probably not a great chance for a Paterson curfew adult style to be upheld.
