The Freedom from Religion Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit to stop the phrase “In God We Trust” from being engraved in the new Capital Visitors Center. The Freedom from Religion Foundation is the Nations largest atheist and agnostic group.
Why are they suing? The Freedom from Religion Foundation says that 15% of Americans identify themselves as atheist or agnostic. Of course they say that that minority would be alienated from the Capitol Visitors Center if the phrase is used. They are also suing to keep “one nation under God” out of the pledge of allegiance. The House and Senate passed resolutions this month approving the inscription of the mottos in prominent areas of Capitol Visitor Center, which serves as the entrance and security screening for tourists.
So if they feel like those phrases being in would alienate 15% of Americans, what about the 85% who would be alienated if they were left out? Groups like Freedom from Religion and the ACLU never think about the majority whose rights would be violated.
“We are effectively being told that we are political outsiders … because we don’t trust in God,” said Annie Laurie Gaylor, co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
Ms. Gaylor shouldn’t feel like a political outsider, the only reason the resolution passed anyway is because the libs don’t have the guts to vote outright against God yet. Believe me, it’s coming though. Republican Jim DeMint of South Carolina sponsored the legislation, he said:
“The Founders based the Constitution and our laws on religious faith and principles that clear the way for individual freedom,” he said in a statement. “Our true motto, ‘In God We Trust,’ expresses this fact, and we cannot allow a whitewash of America’s religious heritage.”
The Freedom from Religion Foundation federal lawsuit also proves one more thing; they don’t think Barack Obama is God either. In a separate lawsuit, the foundation is suing Obama, Robert Gibbs, and Shirley Dobson for actually acknowledging the National Day of Prayer in May. Like I said God haters, just be patient. Obama scaled back the day of prayer didn’t he?
