After the fiasco yesterday and this entire week for that matter with Governor Mark Sanford, a South Carolina poll finds that 50% of South Carolinians think that the good Governor should resign his office. For what it’s worth, I think Sanford should just stop prolonging the inevitable and git while the gittin’s good.
Living as close to South Carolina as I do, able to keep a close eye on the goings on down South I have been very impressed with Governor Sanford up until yesterday. I live in North Carolina, a state ripe with corruption by a Democratic party out of control, a miniature version of Washington if you will.
When I hear the daily absurdities that resonate from Raleigh, I have often wondered what it would be like to live in a state and have a Governor that you could actually be proud of. I thought Sanford was that guy, after yesterday, I know now, I was wrong.
Sanford is still a fiscal conservative. A no nonsense kind of politician that has had a pretty good run in the Palmetto state; but he blew that in one fell swoop yesterday with the revelation of where exactly he had been and who he had been with.
Like most conservatives, I was deeply disappointed in Sanford, not because I thought he would never do anything like that, but mainly because conservatives have only had a few in the political arena to look to; he was one. No more.
So, for the good of the party, but mostly for the good of the conservative movement, he needs to resign.
